Policy makers and city planners
Who is the target group?
The target group includes those who are able to take the relevant decisions toward infrastructure planning, implementation of bicycle plans and promotion of urban cycling culture, especially financing projects.
How can the target group benefit from PRESTO?
Essentially, PRESTO is all about competence building. The project aims at involving local stakeholders in training sessions throughout the project lifetime, but also at offering to a wide audience training materials which will be made available on the project website.
PRESTO will develop an original approach for local authorities with different levels of cycling, from “starter cities”, “climber cities” to “champion cities”. These are also represented in the project by the five PRESTO cities. Three Policy Guidelines are the main project output. These are meant to give urban decision makers insight into the key principles and critical issues of a high-quality cycling development policy. Additionally, for those more technically involved with policy implementation, 25 Factsheets will highlight key measures.
Local stakeholders in the five PRESTO cities will benefit from expertise exchange via training courses and e-learning sessions on cycling and mobility policies. Though only selected key actors can participate at the training sessions, the training materials will be available to everybody for free download on the PRESTO website.
The five cities will also get experts support to develop bicycle infrastructure plans and implement “soft measures” for promotion of cycling culture.
How is the target group involved in PRESTO?
City and transport planners, as well as the political level, are the main target groups that will drive forward cycling policies and also benefit from the PRESTO activities. They will develop further expertise through PRESTO’s on-site training courses and e-learning follow-up classes on effective cycling policies.
Five trainings (1 ½ days each) on the three project topics – Infrastructure Planning, Promotion of cycling culture, Promotion of pedelecs - will be held in the five PRESTO cities throughout the project lifetime. Each time stakeholders from the host city (e.g. technicians, politicians, journalists, bicycle dealers, cycling groups) will be invited to participate, as well as staff from other European cities as they serve as multipliers in their home towns. Training sessions are combined with e-learning activities, incl. a “virtual trial class” to develop a highly professional e-learning product for European outreach. PRESTO aims at involving more than 100 participants to be trained by European experts on cycling and mobility selected among the PRESTO pool of experts.
