Venice - ITALY
The City of Venice is the capital of the Veneto region, located in north-east Italy. The structure of the City is quite particular, as it is actually made up of two parts, mainland Venice and Island Venice, each of them very well defined. The connection between the two parts of the city is provided by a bridge used by trains, buses and cars. There are circa 273.000 inhabitants (60.000 in the Venice city centre, 31.000 in the islands and 176.000 on the mainland).
The City of Venice covers 457 km2 and includes the historical centre (Venice), Lido and Pellestrina islands along with other islands of the Lagoon (Murano, Burano and the other minor islands, as well as the mainland urban areas of Mestre and Marghera).
Venice is a very tourist oriented city; almost 20 million tourists per year arrived in Venice by plane, train, ship, bus or car. Venice is known for its beauty and cultural attractions in every corner of the city; it is a city unique for its ancient art, its rich cultural heritage, its architecture, its urban structure and its channels. Venice is famous for its inventive crafts, the tradition of glass blowing in Murano, masks the extraordinary and beautiful handmade lace. It is one of the most important destinations for international events such as Carnival, Show International Film Festival, the Biennial (exhibition of art and architecture, music and theater). The Lagune, with its magical landscape and natural, is the perfect destination for hiking natural and artistic.
