PRESTO press conference in Tczew on October 29th.A PRESTO press conference took place in Tczew City Hall on October 29. The President of the city and Ludwik Kiedrowski from the Bicycle Office presented the PRESTO projects to journalists and explained into details the launch of pedelecs event. Two representatives from the bicycle industry supplying the pedelecs expressed their support to the project and their commitment in the city of Tczew. The ECF Secretary General Bernhard Ensink, addressed by the journalists, stressed the importance of “cycling as a system” in cities and said that Tczew has committed itself to this approach with the resolution of the City Council to join the PRESTO project as a city partner.

Tczew held the pedelecs launch event on October 29th during the City Council.
Within the PRESTO Project framework, Tczew has officially announced on October 29th the initiation of the pedelecs campaign for 2010. Three pedelecs (but six more are expected) were given to the city and shortly professionals will test the bicycles for a week in the next year to see the advantages for themselves. The project coordinator from Rupprecht Consult, Michael Laubenheimer and Rafael Urbanczyk, were invited to attend the event together with the ECF staff members, Bernhard Ensink and Florinda Boschetti, and Piotr Kuropatwinski and Andrzej B. Piotrowicz from PSWE.

Tczew has appointed Małgorzata Ciecholińska as Bicycle Office head.The city of Tczew was the first Polish city subject to a Bicycle Policy Audit procedure in spring 2009. Thanks to the BYPAD Audit Action Plan, the city decided on June 30th to set up a cycling policy team composed of five persons, headed by Małgorzata Ciecholińska, the first female city cycling officer in Poland. Three people of the team take part in the PRESTO project, two other members of the team support their activities. An important challenge for the new team is to include the cyclists’ interests in the major development project of a new intermodal public transport terminal. The project has recently been accepted for implementation by the EU structural funds. Next year, the city is going to celebrate 750 years of its history. An important event enhancing the celebrations will be the ECF Annual General Meeting scheduled for mid May 2010. It will substantially contribute to the process of creating a cycling culture in this innovation oriented city.
